Supporting the vulnerable with essentials

Allcargo Logistics distributes ration kits to the vulnerable in Uran, Raigad district, Maharashtra.

Just as things seemed to be looking up, the second wave of the pandemic dashed hopes of normalcy. More and more families found themselves slipping into poverty, unable to ensure even nutrition security. Since we are in the middle of a raging pandemic, this could be disastrous as strong immunity is vital to fight off COVID-19.

Concerned about this situation, Allcargo Logistics decided to step in and support some of the most vulnerable from around its business location in Uran, Raigad district, Maharashtra. Single parent homes, senior citizens who lacked support, the destitute, and tribal families – a  total of 100 families from the areas of Uran comprising villages Prikon, Koproli, Chirnerwadi, Kelachamal, Chandeliwadi, Belwadi, Sarda and other neighboring villages were identified basis the need for support.

The project has been implemented under the guidance of Mr. Vaishnav Shetty, Executive Director, ECU Worldwide. Total 100 beneficiaries from 5 target villages were identified and the ration kits have been prepared as per the basic requirement of the target group. The kit comprised  basic ration that can last a month for a family: toothpaste, health and hygiene items such as floor cleaners, sanitary napkins and other necessary items weighing more than 30kgs.

These kits were distributed on 14th June 2021 in each of the villages, following COVID-19 protocols: mask, do gaj ki duri and hand washing. The recipients were relieved as it would help them get by without having to dip into their meagre savings.
